I am a free man! I will choose my own fate.
That is an emblematic medioeval sentence, because people in the Middle Age believed in fate.
They not always were free man, but they could believe in cult, in particular they believed in Gods who allowed to have a destiny.
In fact they believed in Celtic's cult which had druids to explain Gods' wishes.
Druids told them the future which is closely related with fate.
They also believed in Christian religion which acknowledge free will so they could choose their own fate.
