Caesar must die is a 2012 italian drama film directed by Paolo e Vittorio Taviani.
It won the Golden Bear at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival in February 2012.
Inside the prison of Rebibbia the prisoners in maximum security enact Julius Caesar by Shakespeare. Their lives are intertwined with those of the characters played.
Julius Caesar comes to life on a stage in a prison and it is a great success.
Caesar must die is a movie that should make us reflect on the wounds that afflict our country such as marginalization and unemployment. Wounds that help to burn the lives of many boys who embark on the path of crime in the absence of real alternatives.
In my opinion the film is very interesting and instructive and I like it very much. It’s a great lesson shot in the name of human freedom in the most horrid place of life, the prison.
According to prisoners the art of play is the first form of freedom and sometimes the only one.
I think that if these prisoners had lived in a different world away from the districts of Naples and Rome full of misery, poverty and devices, they wouldn’t have been in prison to spend their days lying on a bed to stare at the ceiling for the rest of their life.
The film is a great masterpiece.
