Science Education Research in University of Patras: Two case studies

Abstract
The Laboratory of Science, Mathematics and ICT Education (LSMICTE) constitutes a research unit within
the Department of Educational Sciences and Early Childhood Education at the University of Patras (Greece).
The main objective of LSMICTE is to conduct research in Science, Mathematics and ICT Education at all
l evels of the national educational system with a focus on the pre - school education. Another objective is to
ensure the transformation of the research results into suitable material for teachers training. In this seminar, I
will describe the activities of th e Physics Education Research Group and I will analyse two research cases we
implemented the previous years. The first case study concerns the design and the evaluation of teaching
sequences when introducing historical elements in physics teaching; the seco nd one concerns the design and
the evaluation of research based teaching interventions on the concept of energy from preschool to high
school education.
