“I’m a free man, I’ll chose my own fate” Bors says.  Is this a typical sentenc of Middle Age?

This absolutel y  isn’t a sentence that could be said in Middle age. There’s a simple explanation for this.

During the Middle Age there wasn’t  a social mobility and  the only  free man was the king because he had above him only God(if he was christian) or the destiny(if he wasn’t christian) so he had no bonds. IN the other hand  the othe people couldn’t be free and they were submitted to other people but first of all they were submitted to the king.

The only concept of freedom in Middle Age was linked with the free will proclaimed by Christianity but based only on sins that a person can commit or not with freedom.

Moreover  the sentence said by Bors could be seen as inchoerent because the word “free” at the beginning of the sentence doesn’t arrange with the word “fate” at the end . Infact if a man is free he hasn’t a destiny or fate because he can see his future changing with his choices following the “cause-effect criterion”  and if a man has a fate he can’t choose his future because it has just written.

Although Bors  could mean that he wanted to beat the fate choosing by himself  his future the sentence is not so realistic. Infact, if the sentence had been said by King Arthur it would be more realistic because the legend of King Arthur  tells about him like a “democratic” king who belive in a “round table” where everyone is free. So the sentence said by Bors could never be said by him because he wasn’t King Arthur and he was just a warrior of the Middle Age.
